Effect of source-sink alterations on cotyledon cell number and seed size in soybean.
1988
Yu Zhenwen
Seeds of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill) were grown in the greenhouse and in the fields to investigate the effect of variations in the assimilate supply from the phase of cotyledon cell division to seed maturity on the cell number per seed in cotyledon, rate of seed growth and final seed size. The cell number per seed in the cotyledons was significantly correlated with final seed size and growth rate. The data indicated that the cotyledon cell number was influenced by supplying assimilates to the seed during the phase of cell division.
