Digestibility of rice straw dry matter, organic matter crude protein and crude fiber estimated by the AIA (acid-insoluble ash) method was not significantly different from values obtained using the conventional method. However, significant variations were observed between the 2 methods in determining the digestibility of corn silage organic matter and crude protein. The AIA method was found to have some limitations as shown in the large and significant differences observed in the digestibility of crude protein. Final correlation analysis indicated highly significant correlation coefficients for the nutrients evaluated except crude protein. The results suggest that the AIA method is a good substitute for the conventional method in determining the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, and crude fiber. The AIA method is more practical and economical to use than the conventional method. However, caution should be observed when using the AIA method so as to prevent the ingestion of soil or dust by the animals. The AIA method is considered precise if there is a consistent decrease in the amount of nutrients obtained from the feed to the feces. The decrease in nutrient content from the feed to the feces also indicates proper digestion of the feed.
