Studies of certain post emergence herbicides on purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) were carried out during April 1986, to February 1987, at farmer field U-Thong District Suphan Buri Province. The experimented areas were covered with 70 % of purple nutsedge and laid out in RCB with 10 treatments and 3 replications. Sugarcanesetts of variety Q 83 were planted and then applied with atrazine at the rate of 2.5 kg ai/ha for controlling other annual weeds. Post-emergence herbicides were applied 1 month after planting. Weed controlling efficacy was determined by visual evaluation on a scale of 1-5, and weighing dry leaves of purple nutsedge. 2,4-D sodium + triclopyr at the rate of 2.0+0.56 kg ai/ha gave good control. Even though 2,4-D sodium + dimefuron at the rate of 2.0+1.0 kg ai/ha could control purple nutsedge at the same level of 2,4-D sodium + triclopyr but 2,4-D sodium + dimefuron caused injury effect to sugarcane growth. Metribuzin/ 2,4-D sodium at the rate of 3.125 kg ai/ha gave moderate control. In another treatment in which 2,4-D sodium + triclopyr but 2,4-D sodium + dimefuron caused injury effect to sugarcane growth. Metribuzin/ 2,4-D sodium at the rate of 3.125 kg ai/ha gave moderate control. In another treatment in which 2,4-D sodium at the rate of 2.0 kg ai/ha mixed with various other herbicides namely diuron, dalapon, ametryn and asulam at the rate of 2.5, 2.5, 2.5 and 1.25 kg ai/ha respectively gave satisfactory control at least 2 months. All of herbicides caused some injury effect to growth of sugarcane when comparing to hand weeding plot which had highest of tillering. All treatments showed significant difference in growth and stalk populations of sugarcane.
