Two laboratory experiments were conducted one in summer 1999 and the other in winter 1999 to test the efficacy of Curcuma longa L. (Turmeric) powder + chalk powder (1:5), dust formulations of Psoralea coryleifolia L. and Tribulus terrestris L. and bleaching powder along with Vijetha against grasserie disease of Bombyx mori L. The results showed that application of C. longa powder + chalk powder (1:5) at a concentration of 1kg/100 disease free layings (DFLs) thrice, once during third, fourth and fifth instars immediately after moulting resulted in a reduction of grasserie by 63.16 and 62.45 per cents when third instar larvae of B. mori were fed with mulberry leaves treated with B.mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus(BmNPV) at the dose of 10 polyhedral occlusion bodies/ml (POBS/ml). It was on par with Vijetha at 3.0 kg/700 DFLs and Tribulus terrestris at 10 g/kg of leaves in reducing the grasserie besides enhancing the larval and cocoon characters.
