The element selenium is necessary for animals and human beings, but not for plants. Selenium deficiency has been conclusively found in domestic animals, and addition of selenium compounds to the concentrates for animals is now taking place in many countries. Finland, in 1984, was one of the first countries in the world to sell fertilizers with selenium additions. We should carefully follow the experiences of the Finnish in this field.
