Influence of gibberellic acid and phosphorus on seed production of multiplier onion.
1988
Bunao C.B.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of different levels of phophorus and gibberellic acid application on seed production of multiplier onion. The different levels of phosphorus used were: 0, 50, 100, and 150 kg P205/ha and the gibberellic acid concentrations were: 0, 75, 150, 300, 600, and 1200 ppm. Where no GA3 was applied, application of phosphorus from 0 to 100 kg/ha increased the height of plants at maturity. The effect of phosphorus was not observed when GA3 (gibberellic acid) was applied regardless of rates. The weight of seeds per umbel significantly increased with the application of higher levels of phophorus. At 100 and 150 kg P205/ha, weight of seeds per umbel increased from 377.11 to 426.11 and 466.05 mg. respectively. Days to bolting, number of plants bolted, number of days to seed maturity and seed per plot were not affected by the different treatments. Flowering characteristics, seed yield components, germination percentage, and seed vigor index were not affected by phosphorus and gibberellic acid applications.
