Four computer programs for crossbreeding in farm animals (ODCE, CBE, CS, PEST) are presented. ODCE was written to optimize designs for crossbreeding experiments. CBE is a general package for estimating crossbreeding effects from different data structures using a great number of genetic models. The prediction of the performance of non-tested genetic groups is possible. CS calculates the efficiency of a wide variety of breed utilization systems for meat production with pigs and sheep. PEST is mainly orientated to breeding value estimation, but can be also used for calculating the least squares means of the individual genetic groups using an animal model. An approximative covariance matrix for the grop means is calculated as well. These data are input parameters for CBE.
