M. piperita and M. arvesis have been tried to be cultivated in Indonesia since before World War II, in the West and East Java provinces, i.e. Bandung, Garut, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Jombang and Tulungagung, especially for its self-sufficient. But the problem still face on the quality of M. piperita essential oil, related to the long-day period plant, though the growing conditions are suitable enough. In the tropic, the plant is still unable to flower, meanwhile the flowering time determine the good quality of its essential oil. On the other hand, it is much easier to plant M. arvensis than M. piperita, except adapting clones before planting. At appropriate clones and location and the good cultivation, harvesting and its processing oil per ha per year, where the menthol (64 percent) and menthafuran (7 percent) content are close to international standard quality. While the methol content of M. arvensis reach 84 percent. Besides, many chances to improve quality and quantity of production are still opened.
