Efecto del tamano de semilla sobre la germinacion, el vigor y el rendimiento en un hibrido de maiz (Zea mays).

The effect of size and shape of corn seed on the germination under standard conditions and after cold treatment was evaluated. For both test, the dry weight of aerial biomass of normal seedlings was determined. Under field conditions, the plant dry weight 11 and 35 after the emergence was evaluated. Yield per plant was also measured. Germination percentage of flat seed was affected by the seed size. Seedlings from the two longest seeds for both shapes were significantly more vigorous than those from the smallest sizes, after germination and cold tests. The plant dry weight 35 days after the emergence was significantly larger for the biggest seed than from the smallest one. The same differences were detected for yield per plant.
