The project was established at DA-NOMIARC, Bukidnon to increase productivity and profitability of farmers in Bukidnon through the use of bio-organic fertilizer. The project comprises the three studies: 1) Evaluation of corn cobs and rice hull substrate using Bio-plus activator (BPA) for composting; 2) efficacy of Bio-organic fertilizer (BOF) on the agronomic yield on corn and selected vegetables; and 3) technology demonstration and commercialization on the use of BOF. Decomposition of substrates was fastest in the warm months (Jan-March) of 28 days with 68% recovery of substrates. The nutrient analysis of BOF was 16.27% OM, 1.77% N, 1.79% Total P, and 1.88% K. Economic analysis in producing 100 bags of BOF gave a net return of 9.5% for one cycle (28.32 days). The efficacy tests of BOF in combination with 60-42.42 kg NPK/ha to corn and vegetables showed significantly higher yield and return of capital than inorganic fertilizer alone. Technology demonstration on-station was showcased during annual farmers' field days at NOMIARC wherein reduction of 1/2 inorganic N was emphasized and got an actual grain yield on corn of 4 t/ha over sole inorganic fertilizer with 3 t/ha.
