Modern beef production, in addition to high-performance breeds, is based on the appropriate technology of breeding and exploitation. Many of the problems we face in this area of veterinary medicine and practice are caused by technological procedures in milk production. Today, there are three key health problems of world in cattle production (based on data from 2002) namely lameness, reproductive disorders (27%) and mastitis (19% of cows). Experience has shown that over 90% of cases the causes of lameness are due to various alterations of the acropodium, and in most cases of the hoof. Economic losses, caused by different acropodium difficulties and pathology, could be divided into three categories: premature exclusion from production, reducing production and the cost of treatment. Factors that predispose lameness are those that continuously act for an extended period of time causing as a consequence lesions of the acropodium and lameness. There are four main predisposing factors for the occurrence of acropodium diseases in cows: heredity, diet, housing, keeping and the environment. Since 1981. hoof disease has been systematized in 12 basic categories: laminitis-pododermatitis, interdigital phlegmon-panaricijum, digital dermatitis, interdigital dermatitis, hoof ulcer, interdigital blister-interdigital hyperplasia, white line disease-the hollow wall, burst wall horn, abcess heels, horn erosion and duble foot wall. Treatment usually comes down to prevention, treatment of infection and surgical procedures.
