The main published data concerning normal sheep hematology have been summarized by Byers and Kramer (2010). But, clinical interpretation of laboratory data required to knowing laboratory reference intervals of each subpopulations, especially when additional breed are considered. Criolla lanada serrana breed were originated from an unregulated crossing between sheeps from the Spanish breeds Churra and Lacha and the Portuguese breed Bordaleira. It is a breed on the verge of extinction (Food and Agriculture Organization, 2010) and it distributed in the South of Brazil in some highlands zones with climatological characteristics similar to many Spanish regions. The following investigation was conducted to enlarge the data base information on hematology of sheep Criolla Lanada Serrana breed. The objective of this study was to determine values, under practical conditions, for erythrocyte, leukocyte, and platelet counts, hemoglobin, hematocrit and hematological indices and to determine if age differences existed. Using blood samples collected from clinically healthy animals from different ages, we provide for the first time haematological data from Criolla Lanada Serrana sheep.
