Urinary infections in humans may be localized on any part of the urinary tract causing following diseases: Ureteritis, Cystitis, Prostatitis and Pyelonefritis. The most frequent disease used to be cystitis (bladder inflammation). In 90% of cases, cystitis is caused by pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli. Infection is considered present when huge number of bacteria of the same kind or small number or very pathogenic bacteria is found in urine sample. Cystitis used to be diagnosed in all age groups and it is also frequently present during pregnancy. Urinary tract infections are diagnosed on the basis of clinical examination and testing of urine sample and they are treatable by antibiotics. Additional medicinal preparations are also frequently advised to the clients. In Herbal Pharmacy of the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research Dr Josif Pancic from Belgrade (Serbia), there are several herbal mixtures of great help in urinary infection alleviation. During February 2011, only in the Herbal Pharmacy of Belgrade, the three most sold herbal teas against problems with urinary tract infections were: the tea mixture no. 99 (327 pieces), the tea mixture no. 96 (285 pieces) and the tea mixture no. 14 (161 pieces). The Institute's Herbal Pharmacy also has a herbal preparation for the same group of diseases, named 'PALISEPT', recommended to clients to alleviate difficulties during urination and treat recurrent urinary ducts inflammations. On the basis of our long term experience in the Institute's Herbal Pharmacy Dr Josif Pancic, number of teas/ tea mixtures sold to the clients and their feedbacks, it can be concluded that herbal treatment takes important place as additional medicinal preparations intended for different kind of urinary tract infections.
