On the basis of long use of continuous infusion of fentanyl in orthopedic procedures, we wanted to compare the effects of fentanyl with remifentanil, considering that they belong to the same group of opioid analgesics. All surgical interventions were performed under general anesthesia with different premedication. All patients were in good general condition (5 dogs and one cat), age of 3-9 years with no history of other diseases. Analgesic effect of remifentanil was extremely powerful and directly has decreased isoflurane MAC. Based on our results we can conclude that remifentanil is more powerful analgesic then fentanyl.
