Potassium nutrition and prevention of vegetable diseases | Ishrana kalijumom i pojava i razvoj bolesti povrća

Maksimović, I.
Potassium affects the occurrence and development of many vegetable diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. In general, potassium reduces the intensity of many diseases. It is possible that protective role of potassium, at least in part, is due to its effect on development of thicker cell walls and epidermal cells, which reduces the initiation and development of infection. However development of the disease depends on the extent to which the plants have already been provided with potassium. Success of infection and disease progress in vegetables is highly dependent on the ratios of concentrations of potassium and nitrogen and potassium and other essential elements in plant tissues. Although the way in which potassium increases the resistance of plants to diseases is not completely clear, it is clear that adequate nutrition with potassium is very important in control of vegetable diseases.
