Self-monitoring of industrial wastewater is a set of measures that are primarily conducted in order to study the influence of wastewater on the environment and compliance with regulatory requirements. Self-monitoring is an essential element of environmental management systems at the factory and if the plan of this type of monitoring is properly set and offers multiple benefits to the competent authority and the industry itself. This paper outlines the basic guidelines for the implementation of self-monitoring arising from the current practice of industrial wastewater and the recommendations of international organizations and scientific community.
