This paper presents the results of processing efficiency of the quality of barley seed. Tests were conducted on a variety of spring and winter barley varieties of a foreign selection. We examined the seed material of both cultivars. Varieties are produced at several location in the region of Srem and Bačka (Serbia), and elaborated at two processing centres. Between the tree locations of the seed production of spring barley and six sites of production of winter barley, the demonstrated differences in purity, germination energy and total germination. The difference of mean values for the 1000 seed production between sites was statistically highly significant for both cultivars, as a result of impact of agro-ecological and other environmental conditions during the growing season. Processing technology applied in both varieties of barley, both processed in the centres, increased the purity of the processed seed. Seed germination improved at processing center DC 2, except for winter barley cultivars from location L 3 due to a larger proportion of small seed in the seed material. Germination of the seed processsed in the processing center DC 1 was the same. The aim was to show how good processing can get a uniform and high quality seed of barley, regardless of the quality of natural seed material.
