Investigation of vegetative characteristics of some pome fruit species rootstocks

The influence of rootstock on the production properties of varieties of pome fruit species is enormous. The aims in the selection of rootstocks are achieving smaller vigor and higher yield of grafted varieties. The limitations to be overcome in the use of present used rootstocks in nursery production in R. Macedonia, in Institute of Agriculture in Skopje was made introduction of new types rootstocks for pome fruit species. The vegetative characteristics of rootstock bushes in mother orchards were investigated. The rootstock Jork 9 is characterized with the smallest vigor from the rootstocks for apple varieties. The best developed root system has the rootstock Mark. From rootstock for pear, quince and medlar, the Quince A has the smallest vigor, while the BA 29 has the best developed root system. The results show that some of the rootstocks are perspective for use in nursery production.
