In our work estimation of number of free-living pigeons in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and their role in sanitary conditions and epizootiological status has been shown. The research results about infection with various microorganisms and infestation with parasites has also been represented. The measures for number control of free-living pigeons from long ago suppressed poisoning to hormonal sterilization via food and contemporary nest setting with the withdrawal of eggs for diminishing the pigeon population has been described.
