Methods of using vegetation and plant residues for protecting the soil from water erosion in Bulgaria

The soil, climatic and terrain characteristics of the Republic of Bulgaria cause the appearance of water erosion of soils. The damages for the national economy are considerable and this requires the application soil protection methods and technologies. Some of the methods characterized by high anti-erosion efficiency are those based on the use of vegetation and plant residues for the purposes of soil protection. The present paper outlines the characteristics and technological requirements of these methods. It also presents findings from research done in our country on such anti-erosion methods.
