The beginning of the students scientific activity (ŠVOČ) at the Faculty of Forestry of Technical University in Zvolen reaches back to the study year 1955-1956. In that study year also the first students scientific conference was held. Since then the students meet at the presentations of their scientific papers yearly. During the fifty years of ŠVOČ existence it has been developing variously. This development has been completed by section creating for students of bachelor, engineering and PhD study. Students participation has been positively developed in the long term, whereby the PhD students mainly use the ŠVOČ conferences to presentation and review their scientific papers. Important motivational factor is opportunity to publish the best papers in collection of original scientific works, which is published as a "supplement" of the Acta Facultatis Forestalis journal. If ŠVOČ should meet its aim continue, it is needed to propagate it more among the students and make it more attractive. Irreplaceable role in this process will play a teachers purposeful work, which encourages and directs the creative activity of students.
