The growth characteristics and utilization of available space by trees in the natural forest remnant of NNR Sitno | Rastové charakteristiky a využitie disponibilného priestoru drevinami v pralese NPR Sitno

The aim of this study was to consider selected pattems of mixed natural forest remnant in NNR Sitno. The data were collected in the years 1978, 1988 and 1998 from the 3 plots (60 x 10 m). This plots reflect following developmental stages: growth, optimum and disintegration stage. The simple linear regression analysis revealed the strong correlation between the crown volume and trunk volume in beech. The strongest correlation coefficient (r=0.91 and r=0.83) was recorded in initial phase of the growth stage. The utilization of available growth space by the crown volume ranged from 31.2% to 40.4% in this stage. The weaker relation was confirmed in disintegration stage (r=0.48); where European hombeam and sycamore maple were dominated trees in upper tree layer.
