In 2009, we evaluated morphometric properties of five varieties of short rotation coppice willow on the research area in Kolíňany located in drier soil and climatic conditions of south-western Slovakia. We measured the number of shoots, shoot height, shoot diameter and dry biomass yield in the three years old plantation of Swedish willow varieties Tora, Gudrun, Tordis, Sven and Inger planted in three replicates. Number of shoots per each variety ranged from 14.00 in variety Sven to 20.30 in variety Gudrun. The average height of shoots ranged from 2.49 m in Ingerto to 3.32 m in Sven. The greatest shoot diameter was measured in variety Tora -14.60 mm. The highest average yield of biomass reached the individual crops of variety Tordiswith 4.63 kg. As the results show, the highest values of each morphometric characteristics of individuals were always reached by a different variety. Therefore, it is difficult to determine which morphometric characteristic of the individual has the greatest impact on biomass yield. We assume that this is the result of combining all of the observed morphometric characteristics of individuals.
