This resettlement action plan of the Third Chennai Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project describes the principles in minimizing and mitigating adverse socio-economic impacts of the project. It also contains the details of a) socio-economic information of the project affected persons (PAPs), b) rehabilitation benefits to be extended to the PAPs, c) policy framework and rehabilitation assistance, d) implementation timetable , e) costs and budget estimates, and f) institutional and implementation arrangements. The PAPs were categorized into three groups based on the degree of impact and present living standards. 1) Project affected families (PAFs) who have lost cultivable land and are now in possession of less than one hectare of dry or half an hectare of wet land which are dependent on well irrigation, will be eligible for assistance to improve their existing irrigation facilities. 2) PAFs who have lost cultivable land and who are now landless and living below poverty line will be eligible for assistance for self employed income generating activities and assistance for improving their present housing conditions. 3) Those PAFs who are living poverty line a) and whose homestead lands have been acquired and who have resettled on their own, b) who have been evicted from Government land and are now landless and have resettled on their own, and c) who are identified as vulnerable groups will be eligible for assistance.
