Bolivia - Memorando economico actualizado
Nepal Electricity Authority
Although Bolivia's economy recently showed a real increase (2.4 percent) in gross domestic product (GDP), the country continues to face various problems inherited from past mismanagement. This report, as an updating economic memorandum, reviews Bolivia's current economic situation. It looks briefly at the economic history of Bolivia ending with the economic crisis in the mid-1980s and the present government's adjustment program. The report also examines the effectiveness and contribution of the country's New Economic Policy (NEP), first implemented in 1985, and its extension with the Reactivation Degree. These new policies while leading to a successful stabilization program have not yet been followed by a strong rise in output. Accordingly, this report recommends specific policies that should encourage sustained economic growth including utilizing existing capacity more effectively and making new investments in sectors which are deemed to have longer term potential.
