In the period 2009 – 2010 under controlled conditions in the greenhouses of Agroelit Ltd. in the town of Pazardzhik were investigated the possibilities for using composts of plant waste for cultivation vegetable seedlings with the purpose of replacing the peat as a main component in the mixture for seedlings and to protect the environment from pollution. The experiments were taken out of tomatoes sort Jaguar and cucumbers sort Kalunga in the following varieties: V0 – control – peat enriched and pearlite in exchanged correlation 3: 1; V1 – compost of rice husk and pearlite in exchanged correlation 3: 1; V2 – compost of vine-stocks and pearlite in exchanged correlation 3: 1; V3 – compost of grape barm and pearlite in exchanged correlation 3: 1; V4 – compost of cortex and pearlite in exchanged correlation 3: 1. The tomato plants were cultivated for 6 weeks and the cucumber plants – for 4 weeks from the sowing day without additional feed. Agrochemical analysis of the substrata was held before the pricking in and in the end of the vegetation and biometry analysis for the growth activities of the plants. It was settled that the investigated components could successfully be used as peat substitute for vegetable seedlings growing. They improve the nutrient regime and the received seedling has higher quality features mass, height, thickness and leaves number and a better activity ratio of the nutrient elements.
