The object of investigations was nontraditional for the Republic of Belarus - foxtail millet (Setaria italica). The article represents the results of estimation of yield, biochemical content, morphological, biometrical and energy indexes of Setaria italica on analyzing backgrounds without and with fertilizers using. According to the duration of the vegetation period the highest value was noted at Setaria italica (118-125 days). Duration of the Setaria italica vegetation period on the background with mineral fertilizers increased on 3-8 days in comparison with a background without their application. Setaria italica had higher field germinative capacity in comparison with millet (Panicum miliaceum) (75-77 %), however it showed lower indexes that the latter in the height of plants indexes cultivated on both nutritive backgrounds. Differences by panicle length indexes depending on application of mineral fertilizers were insignificant and in a greater degree were defined by variety features. In the conditions of application of mineral fertilizers the yield of dry matter of Setaria italica green mass increased from 1 hectare up to 22,7% in comparison with the background without fertilizer application with the corresponding values for millet of 21,8 %. At the background of 40 ton/hectare of peat-manure composts + N60P60L90 the higher values of productivity of grain from 1 hectare (16-25 centener) were marked for Setaria italic but not for millet. However at Setaria italica increases of grain productivity at entering mineral fertilizers in comparison with a background without their entering had smaller values, than at millet (22,4 and 26,2 % accordingly). The weight of 1000 seeds was determined by varieties features of studied culture. Value of the given parameter at Setaria italica did not exceed 4,1 - 4,5 g whereas at millet it has made 6,1-7,4 gram.
