This research was conducted in order to use of different levels of oak acorn (OA) and oak kernel (OK) and their effects on the performance and carcass characteristic of commercial broiler chickens in Ilam province. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design consisting of 8 treatments (diets) and 4 replications with 20 chicks in each replicate. The experimental period was 49 days. Diets including, control(without OA or OK), 10% OK, 10% OK treated (by tap water), 15% OK, 15% OK treated, 5 % OA, 10% OA and 10% OA treated. The diets were formulated basis NRC (1994) for both starter (1 to 3 weeks) and grower (4 to 7 weeks). Performance parameters including weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio in starter, grower, at the end of 42 and 49 days periods were compared. At the end of experiment, two chickens from each replicate were selected and slaughtered in order to investigate the carcass characteristics (weight of carcass, legs, breast, heart, liver, gizzard and abdominal fat content). Results showed that, there were no significant effects of diets on the body weight and weight gain. Feed daily intake (gr/chick/day) was not significantly different among the treatments during starter, 1 to 42 and 1 to 49 d, but significant (p0.05) at the grower period. Means of feed conversion ratio were significantly different (p0.05) between treatments. Diets had no significant effects on carcass characteristics, carcass cuts weight and proportions of the carcass cuts (related to live weight). There were no significant differences in mortality between treatments. The results of this experiment indicated that use of OA up to 5 and Ok up to 10 percent (with or without treatment) in broiler diets could be recommended Keyword: Broiler chicken, oak acorn, oak kernel, performance, carcass characteristic.
