At the end of 2011th Latvian practicing small animal veterinarians had been carried out a survey of patients - the dogs whom found microfilariae and/or increased filiform worms. The aim of questionnaire - to find clinical signs that most frequently have been observed in connection with D. repens microfilariae and adult worms. Questionnaires were sent out to about 200 veterinarians. From June 2012 prospective investigation of canine blood samples using knots microfilariae test and determining the concentration of 1 ml of blood has been carried out. In general, 44th dog blood samples were investigated and sent to the Laboratory of Parasitology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from veterinary clinics both for preventive investigation and suspect cases. In Latvia, cases of D.repens in canine are a relatively common occurrence, possibly due to climate change. Microfilariae diagnosed both in symptomatic and asymptomatic dogs and often overlooked secondary, to some other illness. From the 44th dog blood samples microfilaria was detected in 3 cases, i.e. 6.8% of dogs were infected.
