Field observations of the development of carrot diseases during the vegetation period and storage and the comparison of different strategies for the control diseases were carried out at the Pure Horticultural Research Centre and Institute of Soil and Plant Sciences of LLU during the years 2011 – 2012. The diseases of carrots were determined according to the visual symptoms and microscopic features of fruiting bodies and spores. Two strategies of disease control were analyzed – fungicide applied according to the DaCom Plant Plus decision support system and fungicide used according to the expert decision. Leaf spots (Cercospora carotae and Alternaria spp.) are most common carrot diseases during vegetation season, but white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum), black rot (Alternaria spp., Thielaviopsis spp.), soft rot (Rhizopus spp.) and dry rot (Fusarium spp.) are observed during storage. The effectiveness of fungicide usage depends on the year and the severity of diseases. Both analyzed control strategies decreased the disease development during vegetation and increased the yield, but there was no significant difference observed between the control strategies.
