The effect of storage under sunshine or shade on quality and storability of onion bulbs was evaluated in the research farm of the National Institute for the Promotion of Horticultural Exports, University of Gezira, Sudan, during the seasons 1997/98 and 1998/99.0nion bulbs of the three cultivars, Fadasi, Hilu White and Kamleen Yellow were cured well, packed in jute sacks and stored under sunshine or shade for five months. Kamleen with the highest total soluble solids (TSS) and dry matter content had shown the lowest weight loss, rotting bulbs and total post-harvest losses, but the highest sprouting percentage. Fadasi had the highest weight loss, rotting bulbs and total post-harvest losses, but with the least sprouting percentage. Although sprouting (%) and rotting (%) were less in bulbs stored under sunshine, but weight loss and total post¬harvest losses were extremely higher, compared to those stored under shade
