Effect of environmental and management factors on hematological and trace blood elements of cows

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of altitude, season of year, management system, and breed on hematological markers and micromineral concentrations in cows. The highest haemoglobin concentration, phagocytose index, and copper and zinc concentrations were at the altitude 550 m (P less than 0.001). The lowest percentage of eosinophiles was found at the altitude 550 m and the highest at the altitude 910 m (P less than 0.001). The lowest copper and zinc contents were recorded at the altitude 910 m. We found higher concentrations in non-ecological system in both parameters (13.25 micro mol per L; 16.25 micro mol per L vs. 9.81 micro mol per L; 14.65 micro mol per L). Differences among seasons of year and breeds were significant in almost parameters. Results indicated that the imbalance in the diet could lead to differences in observed parametres. We can conclude that hematological markers and trace minerals may be impacted of altitude, season of year, breed, and management system in cows.
