Anatomical structure of stem is genetically determined and is one of the main factors of production process. Tissues and anatomical structures of stem provide integration of vegetative and reproductive organs into a single plant organism; they participate in transfer of water and metabolism products along the plant, in the synthesis of organic substances; they determine the resistibility of plants to mechanical loads. The knowledge of peculiarities of stem anatomy can be used for selection of highly productive oat varieties, resistant to lodging. The use of anatomical signs for the purpose of selection suggests developing and using optimal methodology of research. In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was realized a detection of common regularities of an anatomic structure of a stalk of short-stalk variety samples of sowing oat (Avena sativa) and justification of methods of histologic and anatomic studies of a stalk for development of selection for yielding capacity and lodging. In course of the study there were used histologic and anatomic signs of short-stalk oat samples: AV 17/3/10, Bandiccot, CI 8448, Coky, Flamingskurz, Ot - 207, Pennline, STH 815,76Q:28, 76Q:225, (Vandrownik × 76Q:225) × Vandrownik, (Belarusian golozerny × 76Q:225) × Belarusian golozerny.
