The paper analyzes sugar production and consumption in Egypt in 1995-2009. The paper is divided into three main parts. Individual parts are devoted to sugar production, consumption and trade. The production part of the paper analyzes sugar production from sugar cane and sugar production from sugar beet. There is also trend function providing information about total sugar production during the analyzed time period. The result of regression is the following: the average inter annual growth of production is about 57.625 thousand tonnes. The consumption is described from the points of view of total consumption and individual consumer. The processed linear regression provides information that sugar consumption gets higher by 95.93 thousand tonnes every year. Another part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of total sugar consumption development in relation to total sugar production, number of inhabitants, average income per capita and sugar import. Th result of processed regression is the following: if the sugar production, number of inhabitants, average income per capita and imports increase by 10 %, total sugar consumption will increase by cc. 6.3 %, 1 %, 0.5 % and 2.7 %. The correlation coefficient provides information about the significant relationship among individual variables. The low rate of self-sufficiency (73 % in 2009) implies that Egypt is heavily dependent on sugar import from abroad.
