Yousif, E.F.
Maize is one of the most important food crops in Egypt and the world, the most famous types (most widespread) maize, reaching global production in 2009 of about 817.9 million ton, and is characterized by corn from an economic uses of every part of the plant benefits and uses, it is grain extracts flour a loaf of bread in many countries of the world, and both types of corn, sorghum etc. all fall under the green grassy forage crops. This is because the global spread wide to the maize crop to several factors including: ease of cultivation and production, and given corn crop top from other crops, other grains per hour of work being made in production, is also used grain corn as food for humans and animals, which increases their economic importance, where total world consumption of maize production in 2008 reached 760.4 million ton this as exports and world imports of maize production in 2008 of about 102.1 million ton 103.6 million ton respectively. The study focuses on corn at the global level and local levels to represent the worlds total in terms of production, consumption, exports, imports, and the area planted worldwide, as represented 92.7%,92.8%, 93.2%, 92.14% and 78.2%, respectively, in 2008, while representing 88.9%,89.5%,87.8%,% 87.9% and 74.1%, respectively in 1980. The problem of the study is the continuous increase in the Egyptian imports of maize despite the increase in total production of it, which led to the increasing size of the food gap, and increase the burden of the trade balance and in light of the exchange liberalization of the Egyptian pound and the low value for the dollar, and it summed up the problem in the strong relation between the performance of the global market for maize and its impact on the domestic market. This performance is characterized by a sharp difference from year to performance of the domestic market varies as well. The problem is link to the domestic market of the maize to that of world and then negatively affected by the problems and differences, which gripped the world market and appears in the large-scale fluctuations in import prices of maize year after year. To achieve the objectives of the study the study included five sections, as well as an introduction to the study and shows the identification of the problem and the aim of the way in research and data sources in addition to the content of the study. The first chapter includes the theoretical framework and review of literatures and previous researches. While the second chapter includes the determinants of production in global and local markets included two sections. The first section concerned with world and local production of maize, the second section of second chapter gave productivity on a world level and local sorghum in terms of production, area and productivity. The third chapter concentrated on the determinants of consumption globally and locally from maize and contains two sections. The first section include determinants of consumption, world and local levels of maize and the determinants of world consumption at the level of the most important consumer countries. The second section of third chapter identified consumer-level world and local sorghum. The fourth chapter concentrated on the determinants of world exports and imports of maize and this chapter contains three sections.
