Preliminary yield comparison of selected rice varieties in salinity stress condition and compared with native varieties in Mazandaran and Zanjan Provinces
2011
Asadi, Reza.
In order to achieve a salinity tolerant rice variety suitable for planting in saline prone soil and water, and comparing the salinity tolerance of new released varieties with local ones an experiment was conducted in rice farms field in Zanjan and Mazndra provinces during 2009-2010 on a RCBD with three replications. 8 varieties,5 varieties sent previously by the International Rice Research Institute-IRRI- and known suitable to be cultivated in the Caspian region along with 3 local ones, were exposed to the local saline water. Plant height, fertile tillers per plant, number of filled and hollow per panicle, panicle length, 1000-grain weight were measured . 5 m2 of each plot was harvested for grain yield. The results showed that yield and yield components differences in all treatments were statistically significant (á=0.01). Results also showed that some varieties were more tolerant than the other varieties for instance line IR74095-AC64 with a yield of 8/517 tons per hectar in the city of Amol and 6/857ton per ha in the city Babolsar showed the most resistance. Following by line IR77674-3B-8-2-2-14-2-JY3 and Shiroudi. Based on the results we concluded that salinity has a negative effects on yield
