Arsenic pollution in Hashtrood city was reported as dermal disease. Also, this pollution can cause decreasing of quality and quantity of agricultural products or some illness in farm animals that is not obvious its reason, but can relate to As and other heavy metal pollutions. This study was conducted to investigate kind and extent of soil and water pollution by As and other heavy metals in Hashtrood city. For this purpose, after field study and sampling from the surface and ground waters, soil and rock, data were analysed. Results showed that there are significant differences for mean and median contents between As and Pb in samples and also with crust mean. Mean contents of Ba, S, and Sb in samples were higher than crust ones. The maximum levels of As was observed in fly ash sample. With attention to alkaline pH of soils and waters of the region, and presence of Fe oxides in Newgen red strata, desorption mechanism can describe as pollution. Consequently, as pollution was related to geogenic and volcanic eruptions in this region. These mechanisms are diagnosed as As pollution: As release for the rock units, As sorption by oxide minerals in aerobic and acidic to neutral conditions, desorption from oxide surfaces with pH increasing, and increasing of As concentration in solution.
