Due to suitable climate condition sugar beet can be grown both in spring and autumn in Iran. So far, autumn cultivation of sugar beet was limited to Khozestan province but recently different studies on possibility of extension of autumn cultivation in new areas such as south of Khorasan and Fars provinces and also some regions of Golestan and Moghan have been carried out. According to the difference of the climate of new areas with each other and also with Khozestan province, development of suitable varieties is inevitable. 526 sugar beet genotypes containing half-sib and full-sib family progenies of diploid and tetraploid pollinators which were all resistant to bolting in Khozestan condition were checked for resistance to bolting in three new regions Kashmar (Khorasan), Darab (Fars) and Moghan. Because of number of genotypes, the evaluation was conducted in Augment type design in each region. The length of the rows was 10 meters. Two resistant checks were planted every 20 row intervals. Planting date was the last week of September in all regions and trials were thinned after establishment of the plants. After thinning the number of plants on row was recorded. Late in May, again the plant number and also number of bolters were counted. Due to mild winter in Darab region most of the families had no bolting. This ratio reduced in Kashmar because of colder condition and in Moghan only five tetraploid half-sib with no bolting were observed. While the average of bolting in Moghan region was 0.29% for foreign resistant check and 64.9% for domestic resistant check. The superior families were selected for complimentary breeding projects.
