Investigation of cercospora tolerant of foreign and local commercial sugar beet varieties

This experiment was conducted in 2006 at the Safi Abad agricultural research center of Dezful , I.R.Iran , to evaluate the leaf spot tolerance of domestic and imported 25 varieties of sugar beet. Qualitative and quantitative characters of sugar beet were also evaluated.The experimental design was a randomized complete block in 25 treatments with three replicates. 22 imported cultivars was compared with three domestic monogerm hybrid cultivars as check varieties. Varieties were scored based on KWS scale (1-9). The number 1 was for resistant varieties and 9 for sensitive varieties which had lost their leaves completely. Results of the experiment showed that Varieties Hm1561(Dorina) and Hi0152(Dioneta) with score of the 3 was the most resistant varieties and suseptible check(lin 191) and Ds4057(Mandarin) with score of the 8 were the most sensitive varieties. Experiment Mean score of disease was 5.56. There was a significant difference among varieties in level of resistance to disease, root yield, white sugar yield,percent of purity and root impurities. there were not significant difference in sugar percent and white sugar percent.The highest and the lowest amount of white sugar yield were produced by Cultivar Dioneta, (12.35 t/ha) and suseptible check(lin 191)(7.43 t/ha) respectively.
