Evaluation of the role of rural participation in Ilam watershed management activities

Farmers' participation in watershed management activities, has been accepted as a important manner. Past researchs show that the people participation has not been sufficient. The objective of this research is to determine the effect of various factors on farmers' participation in watershed management activities in the watershed areas of Ilam, through the point of view of rural villages for providing appropriate solutions for enhancing the active rural participation. The 195 villages in the watershed of the 32 villages have been selected. Based on the research project, the amount of rural participation in activities as the dependent variable and the watershed management knowledge, confidence to the project and the rural socio-economic status selected as important independent variables. After collecting the data through questionnaires, the suftwere of SPSS used for analyzing of data, and the data analysis based on the descriptive and inferential (correlation coefficient, hypothesis test, the relationship between dependent variables and multivariate analysis, etc.) has been done.The results show that each of the main variables (knowledge, confidence in enforcement patterns, government dependency and rural incentives),on rural participation in Watershed activities has a high significant with over 99% confidence. But other variables, such as socioeconomic status of farmers, although the figures obtained with the high rate of participation in the Watershed management, but their relationship was not significant statistically.
