In this research chemical, physical, anatomical, pulp and paper making characteristics of two species Populus costanzo and Populus nigra col. 42.55 were investigated. The average dry and critical specific gravity of P. costanzo 0.39 and 0.36 and the Fiber dimension including fiber length, diameter , lumen and thickness of cell wall 1.14 mm, 28.84 μm, 28 μm ,and 2.92 μm were determined respectively and The average dry and critical specific gravity of P. nigra col. 42.55 0.36 and 0.32, and the Fiber dimension including fiber length, diameter, lumen and thickness of cell wall were determined as 0.98 mm, 26.59 μm, 20.84 μm, and 2.86 μm respectively . The average chemical composition of P. costanzo were measured cellulose as %50.74,lignin %19.18, Ext. %1.22 and Ash %1.65 and P. nigra col. 42.55 cellulose %51.42, lignin %18.47, Ext. %1.66 and Ash %1.42 respectively. In order to cook and pulping, keraft process was used. The maximum yield and kappa number of P. costanzo at 1 hour cooking time, 150°c cooking temperature and 12% effective alkali condition obtained as 61.91% and 54.83 respectively and The yield and kappa number at 3 hour cooking time, 170°c cooking temperature and 16% effective alkali condition obtained as 45.63% and 13.42 respectively. The yield and kappa number of P. nigra col. 42.55 at 1 hour cooking time, 150°c cooking temperature and 12% effective alkali condition as 62.69% and 66.98 respectively and at 3 hour cooking time, 170°c cooking temperature and 16% effective alkali condition obtained as 46.76 % and 14.94 respectively.
