Leaf rust with causing agent Puccinia triticina is one of the important diseases of wheat in some wheat growing regions in Iran. Use of resistant cultivars is one of the best methods to control of disease. In order to evaluation resistance of 262 Wheat and Triticale genotypes to leaf rust in adult and seedling plant stages, this study was carried out at field and greenhouse, in 2010-11 cropping season. Field assessments were based on disease severity according to the modified Cobb scale (Peterson et al., 1948) and disease reaction (Roelfs et al., 1992). In greenhouse the genotypes were inoculate with isolate 140, and evaluated according to the 0-4 scale. The Avirulence/ Virulence formula of this isolate of leaf rust is: Lr2a, Lr9, Lr17, Lr19, Lr22, Lr24, Lr25, Lr28, Lr29/ Lr1, Lr2c, Lr2b, Lr3, Lr3bg, Lr3ka, Lr10, Lr11, , Lr12, Lr13, Lr14a, Lr14b, Lr15, Lr16, Lr20, Lr21, Lr23,, Lr26, Lr27, Lr30, Lr32, Lr33 Lr35, Lr37. Based on the seedling and adult plant assessments, the results showed that, from cold region 39 genotypes, moderate region 65 genotypes and from warm region 29 genotypes had acceptable reaction to leaf rust. At seedling stage 72 genotypes showed resistance to isolate no. 140, and 43 genotypes among them were resistant at adult plant stage. This indicates the possible presence of APR gene/s. The remaining genotypes showed moderately to susceptible responses.
