Evaluation reaction of dryland wheat advanced lines and cultivars (Warm and cold regions) selected from cereal trials 1389-90 (Warm and cold regions) to common bunt caused by Tilletia laevis Kuhn in dryland areas.

Bunts are one of the most important diseases of wheat and common bunt with causing agent (Tilletia laevis Kuhn) is one of the destructive diseases of wheat in dryland areas. In order to evaluate resistance of 260 dryland bread and durum wheat advanced lines/ cultivars and 2 triticlae genotype to common bunt, this experiment was carried out in Maragheh and Kordestan in 2010 and 2011 cropping seasons. Eight grams of genotypes were artificially inoculated with spores of related local isolates in ratio of 0.005. Seeds were planted in 2 rows, with one-meter length. At harvesting time, the numbers of infected spikes were assessed for each genotype and their reaction was grouped base on the Mamluk and Van Slageren methods. Based on results, 135 genotypes in Maraghe and Kordestan, were resistant to common bunt. And 51% of bread wheat genotypes and 52% of durum wheat genotypes were resistant. These genotypes are suitable for release or use in wheat breeding programs. Differences were observed among isolates in their virulence different locations and, the previous studies shows the pathotype of Kordestan is more virulent than Maragheh. And highest infection was recorded in Kordestan.
