The dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) degradabilities of alfalfa silage without additive (AS), treated with 0.4% formaldehyde and 0.5% urea (AS), treated with 0.4% formaldehyde and 0.1% urea (AS) and alfalfa hay (AH) were measured by in situ nylon bag method. Two rumen fistulated Iranian Baloochi lambs were used for nylon bag studies. Samples were placed in 7cmx6cm nylon bag and incubated in rumen for different durations of time (2,4,8,16,24,48,72h). The in situ protein degradability study showed that ensiling increased CP solubility (a=0.71 for AS vs. a=0.58 for AH). Comparison of the curve of disappearance of CP and DM at AS and AH confirmed that mixture of formaldehyde and urea were effective in reducing ensiling losses.
