Realizing the constraints on three-line hybrids, the two-line hybrids were developed by breeders to at least reduce the burden of the three-line hybrid production. The SxP was developed and shows promising results. However, the culture of this SxP has yet to be improved particularly in different areas where soil and climatic constraints has to be addressed. The S production requires a temperature range of 21-23 deg C for production. In Northeast Luzon, these can be grown only in high elevated areas of Northeast Luzon where soil problems prevail. Most of these areas are located in sloping and terraced field of the Cordillera where nutrients like zinc, phosphorous and nitrogen are deficient. Similarly, the SxP production relies on proper cultural management to attain high yield. This technology has to be researched particularly in Cagayan Region where hybrids are popularly grown. Preliminary results of the experiment showed that differential seeding of 5 to 7 days are ideal to SxP production during the wet season. The row ratio of 2:8 is standard but this could be increased to get better yield potential when coupled with right nutrient management. Leaf counting method being applied leads to reduced damages done during primordial sampling wherein destructive sampling is the normal practice in the Philippines.
