The aim of this paper is to review the important characteristics for breeding for improving the quality of feed barley. The feed quality of barley is depended of complex chemical carbohydrates, non-starch polysaccharides, amino acids, fibre, protein, fat, minerals and vitamins and physical characteristics colour, grain weight and size, hull content, 1000 grain weight, volume weight and grain hardness. Different feed requirements of different groups of animals demand the definition of quality indicators for each group.
