Over the past few years, there have been reports of pets, primarily dogs from rabies-endemic countries outside the European Union (EU), which, through illegal imports and cross-border transportation of the territory of Europe have created a risk for the disease of rabies in humans. In this article, be considered normative documents developed by the European Parliament and the Council on reduction of the risk of the spread of rabies in Member States of the EU. Listed are the amendments to the legislation and the introduction of a new Regulation (EC) № 576/2013 to improve controls related to the movement of animals for non-commercial purposes within the territory of the Community and prevention of rabies, in force since 29 December 2014.
