Fumigant compounds such as phosphine and methyl bromide are used as current method for stored products pest control in Iran. Methyl bromide is an ozone-depleting and its use is limited, also resistance to phosphine is developed between some species of stored products pest. Then extensive researches has been started to find of methyl bromide and phosphine alternatives. Ozone is one of these alternatives. Ozone has shown potential for control of insects, also decomposes rapidly and thus leaves no residues. In this study, lethal effect of 2 g/hr concentration of ozone on three life stage of Ephestia cautella and Sitophilus oryzae was evaluated. Infected samples of these pests are located to three depth (0, 5, 20 cm) of products (dried fig and wheat), and fumigation by ozone done for 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Results showed that 120, 60 and 30 minutes of ozonation could be acceptable control of egg, Larvae and adults of E. cautella respectively. In S. oryzae, 120 ozonation for egg, larvae and adults caused 48.1, 92.2 and 98.3% mortality respectively. Thus, with consideration of ozone advantages, fumigation by ozone is one of the acceptable option for stored products pest control. : Abstract
