in order to effect drought tolerance in grain sorghum cultivars and advanced lines, an experiment was conducted as split-plot on randomized complete block design with three replications at experimental field of seed and plant Improvement Institute, Karaj in 2012- 2013 (two years). The results of combined analysis showed that cultivars and lines were significant differences in 1% probability level. Mean comparisons indicated KGS23 line with grain yield of 7197.2 Kg ha-1 was allocated the highest yield. sepeede and Kimiya cultivars respectively with grain yield 6888.5 and 6666.3 Kg ha-1 were in the next ranks. Results using stress Susceptibility Index (SSI) revealed that KGS23 and KGS36 lines and respectively with SSI , 0.74 and 0.62 were more tolerant than others. Stress Tolerance Index (STI) , KGS23 with STI of 0.68 announced as stress tolerant genotype. Geometric Mean productivity (GMP), KGS23 line with grain yield 7238.7 Kg ha-1 was determinated as stress tolerant genotypes.Tolerance Index (TOL) revealed that Payam and sepeede cultivars and KGS19 and KGS36 lines respectively with grain yield of 5057.78, 6233.61, 6267.5 and 6319.72 Kg ha-1 in stress conditions were determinated as stress tolerant genotypes. Study of high and positive correlation between STI, GMP, and MP especially STI Index with yield in optimum and drought conditions indicated that them as the best indices for introduce drought tolerant genotypes.Study of total indices with give attention to that the best genotypes have high yield in optimal conditions and least decrease in yield at stress conditions, introduced KGS23 lines as suitable genotype in drought stress conditions.
