To verify the proper plant density of promising forage sorghum lines for growing as second crop after cereal, a study was carried out at Neyshabur research station in Khorasan Razavi province for two years (2012-2013). Statistical design was factorial based on RCBD with three replication. Treatments were four plant density(16, 19(check), 22 and 25 plant m-2), and four forage sorghum lines(three promising line:KFS12, KFS18, MFS4 and PEGAH(commercial check). Experimental results indicated that the effect of year on desirable traits was significant and the warmer conditions of the second year, has caused them better performance. Increasing plant density, increased crop growth period, forage yield, dry matter yield and stem yield, but decreased stem diameter, plant height, leaf yield and leaf to stem ratio. It also reduced the proportion of feed grains. The check cultivar(Pegah) was better than others for forage, DM and stem yield, plant height and stem diameter, but delayed more than others, lacked of feed grains at harvest and was highly sensitive to lodging. In view of the objectives of this study include the cultivation of forage sorghum as second crop after cutting cereal irrigation, one harvest during growth period for ensiling forage and optimum quantity and quality forage yield, density of 19 plant m -2, and promising lines MFS4 and KFS18 are recommended for our purpose.
